Richard Phillips Racing

Richard learned the art of training flat races from Classic winning trainer, Henry Candy where he was his number two for eight years. Although Richard primarily trained National Hunt horses, he has trained flat winners for the Maktoum family and Lord Vestey and then went on to train his first listed winner in 2002 with Averted View.

However, Richard’s main success has come through jump racing. In the early years, high class chasers such as Time Wont Wait, Gnome’s Tycoon and Noble Lord, proved to the racing community that Phillips had the talent to train at the highest level. It was Richard’s move to Jackdaws Castle in 2000 that caused his training career to take off. Replacing Champion trainer, David Nicholson, at the finest state of the art training complex in the country, gave Phillips the opportunity to show his true skills and he and his team answered every call.

Following J P McManus’ purchase of Jackdaws Castle, Jonjo O’Neill was installed and Phillips was forced to find a new base. With Richard keen to keep his excellent team together, the beautiful Cotswold village of Adlestrop was converted into one of the finest training operations in the country. Richard’s first year there gained him his first Cheltenham Festival winner with La Landiere, her seventh win in a row and followed on from a brilliant success in one of the country’s most valuable handicap chases, The Racing Post Chase.

On the back of that success, Richard now has a fine team of young horses to help Richard go right to the very top of his profession.

		Faisal Stable Lad Faisal has been with the team for three years. He is very good with the horses on race days and you will often see him with our horses at the racecourse. Faisal also takes a keen interest in all the horses at home and is constantly looking for opportunities to develop his skills further.

		Zack Davidson Stable Lad Zack came to us straight from the British Racing School having spent his life riding ponies and horses. His experience and his temperament make him a very versatile and capable work rider.

		Nepal Singh Stable Lad Nepal is a cheerful influence on the yard and always greets our owners with a smile. He is also an excellent work rider and gets the very best out of the horses on the gallops.

		Gulab Singh Stable Lad Gulab is an extremely hard working and natural horseman. His quiet and calm nature greatly benefits our horses that are of a more nervous disposition. His demeanour and balance means he isvery good with our young horses.

		Narpat 'Gunga' Singh Yard Man Our resident yard man and invaluable asset to the yard. Gunga is in charge of the everyday upkeep of the stables and manages the horses on the walker. He is an extremely hard worker he will tackle whatever the job the yard may require with vigour and good humour.

		Nessie Lambert Work Rider A master of the Heythrop hunt and a very talented and natural horsewoman, the yard benefits greatly from having Nessie as a work rider. She has had an instrumental role in bringing on several of our horses and the flat work she does provides an extra dimension to the horses work.

		Emily Harrower Work Rider Emily recently joined us in the Cotswolds from her native Scotland . The schooling experience Emily has acquired as an event rider is greatly beneficial to the young horses on the yard.

		Beanie Beanie has been part of the team at Adlestrop stables since 2007. She provides security services and also owner entertainment.
